Remembrance 2018
We commemorated the centenary of the end of World War 1 with a huge project incorporating Art, History, English, Design and Technology and Computing. Every child in school created a poppy using recycled plastic bottles and lots of acrylic paint!
On Friday 9th November Miss Banks and 5B led a special, very moving, service in church and taught everyone all about the origins of the poppy and its connection to soldiers and the armed forces.
After the service, a team of staff and pupils worked together under the guidance of Mrs Forrester to create this beautiful sculpture - our small version of the poppy wave.
As part of the project Mrs Melling and 5M created a tree of poppies - a 'leaf for a life' - commemorating the lives of family members of our pupils who fought in the war.
Thank you to everyone who attended our service - the church was packed! Special thanks to historian Stan Aspinall who guided us to the stories of some of Standish's local World War 1 heroes and to Mrs Meadows for the beautiful stones.
