On behalf of our whole school community, I am delighted to welcome you to the St. Wilfrid’s Church of England Primary Academy website.
St. Wilfrid’s is a happy, caring and ambitious school where children and adults are proud to belong. Our Christian vision, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every child is unique, valued and capable of achieving great things, and we want every child to flourish.
We know that children thrive when school and home work closely together. We greatly value our partnership with parents and carers and believe that open communication, encouragement and support help children feel confident, secure and ready to learn. The partnership we build with you helps us to nurture and develop the strong foundations your child begins to establish at school. Your support for the school’s values and procedures is an important part of this, helping your child to feel secure, confident and ready to learn.
We are incredibly proud of the outcomes our children achieve and of the recognition our school has received. Our most recent Ofsted and SIAMS inspections in March 2026 highlighted our strong outcomes, excellent preparation for secondary school, inclusive ethos and the way our Christian vision enables children and adults to flourish.
As part of the Learning Together Trust, we also benefit from working alongside five other schools, sharing ideas, expertise and opportunities to further enrich our children’s education. We offer a broad and ambitious curriculum, with reading at its heart, alongside a wealth of experiences that inspire children to discover their talents and develop a love of learning. From the arts and sport to science, the outdoors and beyond, we want every child to have the opportunity to find something they love and be the very best version of themselves.

Our Achievements
We are incredibly proud of the positive feedback from our most recent external evaluations in March 2026, which recognised the care, ambition and commitment that are at the heart of our school. Ofsted highlighted that our outcomes are typically well above national figures and that children build their knowledge securely, preparing them very well for secondary education. Our SIAMS inspection also recognised our strong Christian vision and the way it shapes our daily life. These inspection findings complement our continued national recognition. In April 2025, St. Wilfrid’s received a 5-star rating and was ranked the 15th Best State Primary School in England in the Primary School League Table published by ‘School Guide’. Furthermore, in September 2025, The Telegraph ranked us 35th in England, placing us as the number one Primary School in the Wigan Local Authority. Finally, we continue to hold a range of prestigious awards and accreditations, including Arts Mark Gold, Platinum School Games Mark, and the Primary Science Mark.
