Class: Year 5 Year: 2016 - 17

In Art and Design this half term we have been learning about the artist Peter Thorpe and his work. He creates space paintings with rockets and planets on top of an abstract background. It has linked in with our Science topic on ‘Space’.

First we designed our own rockets in ‘Peter Thorpe’ style then we learned about the use of colour including primary and secondary colours before creating our abstract background. During the unit of work we learned about composition and how to create light and dark areas using tints and tones.

We have studied the use of colour and design in his paintings and have used this to influence our own work, they are out of this world! Take a look…
