Headteacher's Welcome

Welcome to St. Wilfrid’s…

On behalf of the whole academy, I would like to welcome you to our website.

St. Wilfrid’s Church of England Primary Academy has been delivering education as part of the Standish Community for many years and we are very proud of all that has been achieved. We are very much a family who work together in partnership to ensure that all children are happy and achieve well. We enjoy close links with St. Wilfrid’s Church and we are very proud of our strong and distinctive Christian identity, culture and ethos, which permeates all aspects of academy life.

St. Wilfrid’s Church of England Primary is part of the Learning Together Trust and the support school in the Multi Academy Trust, currently supporting another local school and working collaboratively.

In September 2007, Ofsted judged the school to be Outstanding in all areas. We are very proud of this and the significant achievements of all our children. During January 2018, we had an extremely successful SIAMs inspection, which was also judged to be outstanding in all areas. We have been successful in achieving a range of awards and accreditations.

In 2018, we were proud to be shortlisted for ‘Primary School of the Year’ in the Wigan and Leigh Education Awards. At the same awards, we were thrilled to be named winners of ‘Sustainable School’ Award for our highly effective Eco-Team and ‘Career Aspirations’ Award for our extremely successful Career and Aspirations Themed Week. We were also delighted to receive the ‘Healthy Living’ Award at the Greater Manchester Schools’ Awards for our outstanding provision in PE and School Sport.

I hope that you find the information on our website useful, giving you an insight into the life and work of our Academy.

Mr. Stuart Colothan

“School is about providing an environment and ethos where children are given an education of the highest quality, which leads to academic excellence, personal development and spiritual growth. It is about nurturing individuals, who reflect Christian Character and values, and are prepared for tomorrow’s challenges as lifelong learners.”
